“Al is a pioneer in transforming school learning but has also been a consistent support for many of us working in the sector - he quietly champions the small fish whilst having a huge global impact. The nicest man in EdTech.”

Ben Whitaker, Director, EduFuturists

“Al has a comprehensive knowledge of governance at every level and was my go to person for help. His approach to existing Trustees was both friendly and supportive, offering strong guidance tinged with a good sense of humour.”

Paul Rout, Trust Chair

“Al is a breath of fresh air - constantly sharing learning, always offering a supportive hand and continually pushing out his positivity!”

Drew Povey, Education Leadership Specialist

"Al’s work in governance across a variety of settings and demonstrating local leadership in the field continues to be a valuable source of expertise for governing bodies to access"

George Hayes,

Strategic Lead for Governance (Cambridgeshire and Peterborough)

“I’ve heard Al speak, and I’m delighted he has written this book. The sector is still relatively young, and the more people like Al share wisdom, the quicker we learn. If only this has been written eight years ago, my time at Chiltern Learning Trust would have been much smoother!”
Adrian Rogers

CEO & NLE, Chiltern Learning Trust

100 Questions  for
Governors and Trustees

Governing boards play a critical role in ensuring schools and trusts are well-led, compliant and focused on improving outcomes for all pupils. This guide is a comprehensive list of key questions that trustees and governors should regularly ask themselves and their organisations.

The questions have been curated from the discussions in my governance books and publications, alongside cross-references to current legislation guidance.

Building on previous guidance already curated in “My School Governance Handbook” and “My School & Multi-Academy Trust Growth Guide”, these questions are grouped by thematic topic. Each is followed by an explanation of why the question matters and any relevant guidance, alongside a few of my signposted insights as well as a handy space for your own notes.

Simple format, simple questions, all aimed to make the conversations, and sometimes the challenge, flow better at your school board meetings.
